Arthritis is a progressive loss of the cushioning in a joint. it may be caused by mechanical forces, and/or by inflammatory processes such as rheumatoid arthritis. Think of arthritis like the tread on a tire; the more you drive the more the tire wears down… especially if the alignment is off. Flat foot is a progressive loss of the foot “arch”. Overtime this condition often causes pain through the degeneration joints, as well as excessive strain on tendons and ligaments that support the arch. In early  stages, orthotics may be helpful in preventing progression, however, in severe cases, surgery is often necessary.

A Hammertoe is a progressive deformity of the toes generally caused by weakness of the intrinsic musculature of the foot. Hammertoes may or may not cause pain in and out of shoe gear. There are many treatments available for hammertoes if they cause pain.

A bunion is a progressive dislocation of the great toe joint which may or may not cause pain. Often times patients complain of pain within the joint, pain on the “bump” while wearing shoe gear, or both. Unfortunately, surgery is the ONLY way to correct a bunion.

Plantar fasciitis is a condition caused by progressive strain of the plantar fascial ligament. Often times this condition is linked with a tight calf muscle and achilles tendinitis. Patients will typically feel pain in the heel with the first step out of bed that gets worse throughout the day.
